Theatre SilCo is an Equity theatre in Silverthorne, Colorado currently accepting applications for a Junior Set Designer / Production Technician for the 2025 Summer Season. Productions include: Wizard of Oz, Steel Magnolias, What the Constitution Means to Me, Escape to Margaritaville
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Junior Set Designer will design and build the set for the Education Department’s production of Wizard of Oz. The shop carp will ensure sets are built, painted, and finished as per direction from the Education DIrector. In addition to design responsibility for Education, the candidate will serve as a builder and technician for Theatre SilCo’s summer season of mainstage productions. They will be a part of the build team(s), provide assistance when needed to technical teams, fill a run-crew position on assigned shows.
TECHNICAL PROCESS: Junior Set Designer will work on a team of Junior Designers to provide a fully functional and safe set, loaded in accordance with the production calendar. After which they will participate in all assigned rehearsals/performances for the Theatre SilCo’s Summer Season.
MAINTENANCE: Aide in the maintenance and daily storage of all theatre equipment and tools. Communicate the need for repairs or replacement as soon as possible to the TD and ATD. Maintain the shop, backstage areas, scenic storage, etc. in a neat and orderly fashion. Assist in the storage and maintenance of properties, set pieces, furnishings, and all technical equipment concerning load-in/strike, special events, workshops and other coordinated events.
QUALIFICATIONS: B.A. or BFA graduate or candidate with an emphasis in technical theatre. Demonstrated proficiency in Set Design. Strong carpentry skills and experience in construction for theatre, scenic painting skills a plus. Display a positive attitude with a focus on people and community. Must maintain a safe working environment at all times. Must demonstrate professional conduct at all times. Able to pass a background check for work in the Education Department. Ability to decipher drafting plates, elevations, ground plans, and other design elements. Must be able to work independently and on a team.
PHYSICAL DEMAND: This job requires climbing stairs, using ladders, scissor lifts, and power tools. Must be able to correctly and safely operate shop tools, saws, drills, and other machinery. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. Ability to stand for long hours and work at height (up to 20’).
