Daruma

DARUMA is a nationally touring band whose music speaks to the 21st century through a potent blend of improvisation, electronics, driving grooves, and evocative cinematic textures. They were recently named 2025 Creative Capital finalists and won the 2024 South Arts Jazz Road touring grant, supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Mellon Foundation, and the Doris Duke Foundation.

The band has performed throughout the US and has been featured on NPR, PBS, and CBS broadcast TV. They look forward to performing at The Kennedy Center in June 2025.

Members of the band have performed with leading voices in contemporary music including Billy Childs, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Action Bronson, Big Gigantic, Tia Fuller, and Theo Croker, at notable venues including Birdland, the Blue Note Amsterdam, Dodger Stadium, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and have won ASCAP and Downbeat Magazine awards.

Meet The Cast

SHANE DÄHLER

SHANE DÄHLER

Albanian-American drummer and bandleader, Shane Dähler, has performed all over the world with renowned rapper and NYT best-selling author Action Bronson, acclaimed Trinidadian Afro-jazz fusion steel pan orchestra Siparia Deltones, and as a co-leader of the contemporary jazz quintet DARUMA. Shane was awarded a spot on the 2025 Creative Capital shortlist and a 2024 South Arts Jazz Road touring grant, and has appeared on radio and TV around the United States.

He has performed and conducted workshops in Cuba, the Netherlands, and the UK, and has been an artist in residence in Trinidad & Tobago with the Deltones Institute of Steel Drums & Music, where he was personally recognized by President Christine Kangaloo. Shane attended the New England Conservatory as a merit scholar, where he was mentored by NEA Jazz Master Billy Hart, Ra Kalam Bob Moses, and Dave Holland.

Shane is endorsed by Paiste Cymbals and Remo Percussion.

ZACHARY RICH

ZACHARY RICH

Zach Rich is an award-winning trombonist, composer, and arranger. He has collaborated with jazz luminaries Billy Childs, Rufus Reid, Tia Fuller, Steve Wilson, John Clayton, and has won awards from Downbeat Magazine, ASCAP, ISJAC, and JEN.

He has written music for Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Helsinki Jazz Orchestra, New York Youth Symphony, Ravinia Steans Music Institute, Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra, and several Music Educators Associations throughout the US. His recent jazz chamber album, Solidarity, was released on Origin Records.

Zach is a Professor of Jazz Trombone and Jazz Arranging at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music.

GABRIEL MININBERG

GABRIEL MININBERG

Gabriel Mininberg is a touring Puerto Rican saxophonist and composer. He has toured the U.S. as the co-leader of DARUMA, earning a spot on the 2025 Creative Capital shortlist and winning the 2024 South Arts Jazz Road touring grant. He has won artist residencies at the Jentel Foundation, Tongue River, and the Creative Center of Stodvarfjordur. As a composer he has been commissioned to create new multimedia works for chamber ensemble. His music has been featured in museums around the U.S., including the Denver Museum of Contemporary Art and the Oklahoma Contemporary Art Center.

He studied music and astrophysics at Yale University, and has been mentored by Wayne Escoffery, Shanon LeClaire, and Kenny Werner. He has served as a Teaching Artist at the Yale School of Music, created the Michael Brecker International Saxophone Competition at the Red Sea Jazz Festival, and has helped manage Dianne Reeves, Brad Mehldau, Danilo Perez, and Joe Lovano.

HUNTER ROBERTS

Hunter Roberts is a nationally touring bassist, composer, and visual artist. He has performed with leading voices in contemporary music including Big Gigantic, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Break Science, Matisyahu, the Bttrfly Quintet, Maurice Brown, Joe Farnsworth, Dave Kikoski, Colin Stranahan, and Grammy-nominees Adam Deitch and Benny Bloom. Hunter's visual art has been featured at a number of galleries and has appeared on Grammy-nominated album covers

MAXIMILLIAN MOORE

MAXIMILLIAN MOORE

Pianist and composer Maximillian Moore has toured all over the U.S. with renowned Ghanaian drummer Paa Kow and inventive contemporary ensemble DARUMA. He has been recognized as a promising talent by Wynton Marsalis, and has shared the stage with Grammy-nominated musicians Kurt Rosenwinkel, Melissa Aldana, Ron Miles, Greg Osby, Veronica Swift, Shane Endsley of Kneebody, and Terrell Stafford.

As a composer, he has received commissions from the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation, his music has been featured at the Vail Jazz Festival, Rochester International Jazz Festival, and has appeared in Downbeat Magazine.

Max studied jazz composition and performance at the New School with Hal Galper and former Art Blakey Jazz Messenger, David Schnitter.
