First Rehearsal! Broadway Now & Then

Its time again for the Lake Dillon Theatre Company annual Fall Cabaret BROADWAY NOW AND THEN,  an evening that celebrates the Golden Age of musical theatre and highlights the music of Broadway today.

“Musical Theatre is one of America’s truly special art forms,” said Chris Alleman, LDTC Artistic Director. “There is a sense of nostalgia as we remember these classic jazz standards and show tunes that are familiar to us today.  And the composers and lyricists of the classic Broadway scores provided a foundation for today’s emerging composers.”

Cast member Nina Waters is excited to share her favorite Broadway songs with the community “Broadway Now and Then is always a fun event where we get to get together with our favorite actors and sing songs that we may not normally sing otherwise. It’s our opportunity to show you what we sing in the shower, the car, in bedrooms, and rehearsal rooms when no one is around” Said Waters.

Just like any performance lots of time is spent in the rehearsing for a perfect show, here are a few photos from the first rehearsal of BROADWAY NOW AND THEN.

A Chat With Sharon Kay White

September 7 – 23 the Lake Dillon Theatre presents I’LL EAT YOU LAST: A Chat With Sue Mengers featuring Sharon Kay White. Sharon Kay has been seen in other LDTC productions including SISTER ACT: The Musical, NOISES OFF, and most recently THE UNDERPANTS. We sat down with Sharon Kay to catch up and chat about her upcoming performance.

What excites you most about I’LL EAT YOU LAST?

The challenge! It’s always a challenge doing a one-woman show. The solitary experience, the volume of text. And add to that the fact that Sue was an actual person, not just a fictional character, which adds another layer of complexity and responsibility.

Sue Mengers has a huge personality which definitely shows in the script, what do you hope to bring to this role?

Oh boy, does she ever! I hope to honor the truth of who Sue was. She didn’t seem to have much of a filter, and loooooved her own stories. If I can convey that, that will be at least a good starting place.

What do you hope Audiences take away from I’LL EAT YOU LAST?

I hope audiences have a good laugh with Sue. Boy, she has some stories!  And she did not mince words.

What is the most exciting thing about doing a one-woman show? The most Challenging?

Exciting and challenging?  Or terrifying?  Actors forget lines from time to time, but usually, there’s someone else on stage who can help you out.  Here, I’m totally on my own!  But there’s also some exhilarating about that. It’s all up to me, sink or swim!

Finally, we are thrilled to have you back as a part of the 2018 acting company. What does it mean to return to Summit County and the Lake Dillon Theatre Company?

I’ve totally fallen in love with Summit County and the family that is the Lake Dillon Theater Company, so it really means everything to me. This place is truly magical, and I am honored to be a part of it.

I’ll admit this is my first fall here in Summit County. Being new to the county makes me excited to experience my favorite season in a new place. That includes the happenings at the Lake Dillon Theatre Company.

I’LL EAT YOU LAST: A CHAT WITH SUE MENGERS
